Optimally preparing athletes for football is one of the most intellectually challenging tasks a coach can take on. Like no other team sport, football has MASSIVE differences in physical characteristics and skill demands between players. A relatively cookie cutter approach to training, like soccer or basketball, simply won't cut it.

The constraints of the high school environment arguably make it the most difficult level of football to prepare for. None of the resources of college or the pros, but far more headaches- class schedules, limited training time, vacations, you name it.

Combined, these two difficulties mean that the price of poor decision making in high school football is punished far more harshly than perhaps any other sport. Go too hard in off-season, and your team will get injured and lose your only true opportunity for development that year. Go too light during camp, and you'll get ragdolled in the fall. Focus too much on weights, you'll end up a step too slow on the field. Don't lift enough and you'll limp into the end of the season.

In this free presentation I'll outline what I believe to be the optimal approach to preparing high school football athletes, to balance all these competing demands, and to develop an explosive, tough, but most importantly healthy team, that gains momentum and freshness deep into the playoffs.

Expect to learn about:

  • The speed and conditioning demands of the game
  • How positions vary in their speed, strength and power needs
  • How to organize training variables throughout each key stage of the year
  • How to progress training from week to week while balancing injury risk
